A Musician on a Mission
With singular focus on excellence in musical craft, Neil Rao is a complete musician.
From Louisville, KY, Neil gave his first musical performance as a guitarist and singer at the age of 9, performing Beatles covers. He began composing in a demo of FL Studio at that age, and has continued to write and produce music ever since. His compositions have been performed by groups including the Louisville Orchestra, Messiah College, Lineage Percussion, and his film scores have been semifinalists in several film festivals.
A dedicated educator, Neil has taught students around the United States to reach their academic, professional, and personal goals. Neil’s students have pursued further musical studies at the collegiate level, formed bands, and — most importantly — had fun learning music. Neil’s teaching focuses on a strong fundamental skills and healthy technique to support lifelong music making.
Neil gave his concerto debut in 2013 with the Louisville Youth Orchestra, premiering his Concerto for Percussion. He has given further solo performances, including a commissioned work for One Book, One Philadelphia. Neil has performed as a professional percussionist with several regional orchestras and chamber ensembles.
